About Mrs. Weiss

I am very excited to be teaching your child at Triggs Elementary School this year!

EXPERIENCE:  This is my 14th year of teaching and my 8th year in 1st grade.  I have previous experience in 2nd grade, 3rd grade, ESL, 1st/2nd Combination Class, 5th grade math, and 6th grade science.  I have taught in suburban VA, rural OK, urban Northern VA/Washington DC, on Nellis AFB, and now here in the Mojave Desert of North Las Vegas.

BACKGROUND:  I have a BA in History with a concentration in American Studies and a Master's of Teaching degree from the University of Virginia.  I took 10 years off from teaching to have and raise my own military kids.

PERSONAL:  I am married, and my husband is in the US Air Force.  We have 3 grown children. My daughter is in the Air Force, and both of my sons are in AF ROTC at the University of Virginia.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & BELIEFS:  

I have four main responsibilities as your child's teacher.

1.  I will keep your child safe.

2.  I will be certain that your child is treated with respect, and that he/she treats others the way he/she wishes to be treated.

3. I will teach your child the academics expected of a first grader and extend and enrich their first grade experience with color, music, movement, song, video, technology, & hands-on, minds-on learning.

4. I will be certain to nuture your child's potential, unique talents, and instill a sense of self worth and importance. I want each child to feel like they are an important member of our classroom family.

In order to academically teach your child, I need to be sure that they are ready:
1. Socially

2. Emotionally

3. Behaviorally

All year we will consistently focus on these areas as your child naturally grows and matures.
